Summary of the May Fellowship

With the aims of encouraging, connecting, and spreading God’s light through Christians’ good deeds in Hanoi during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, Love In Action organized a meeting on Saturday morning, May 23th, 2020 at DETECH Tower on Ton That Thuyet Street.

The meeting had the participation of 15 Christian churches in Hanoi consisting of 30 pastors and the members. Eight out of those churches have shared good deeds that they have done in coordination with the government of Vietnam in Hanoi City to repel COVID-19 and support Hanoi citizens having difficulty because of COVID effects. Those activities are as follows:

- Donating 150 million in cash to contribute to the city government to join hands in fighting the COVID-19. - Delivering about 100,000 face masks and 100 cartons of the bottle of hand sanitizer to the community.

- Visiting and giving gifts to families in need inside and outside the churches with over 600 gifts, and delivering to the communities: rice (over 10 tons), instant noodles (more than 100 cartons), eggs, fish sauce, cooking oil, etc. - Supported medical equipment: medical protective suits (more than 100 suits), fixed belts, walker, etc. for Bach Mai Hospital, Central Tropical Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Military Hospital 198, The Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee, etc.

The total value of cash and in-kind contributed by the 8 Christian churches during the COVID-19 pandemic was about 1.1 billion VND.

Besides, the churches held free online classes for autistic children and parenting classes to help parents take care of children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, the churches in Hanoi visited and gave gifts to people in need in remote areas.

We believe that there are many different Christian churches joining hands with the whole city to fight against the pandemic, so the hard work of every church are for sure credited and supported by the government, communities, Christian members, and above God. The great deeds have been done not only during the last COVID-19 pandemic but also in the churches. Simultaneously, the churches discussed and shared what the churches desire and plan to do shortly to keep spreading and more widely implementing good deeds. Some important ideas are proposed as follows:

- The churches need to coordinate with each other and with local authorities, individuals and different organizations to create a good deed movement that is more synchronous and more widespread.

- Setting up charity funds for good deeds to be done regularly. - Openly sharing the good deeds that the Church has done to encourage other churches and members, to gain glory of the Lord, and to build a beautiful and loving city along with the government and the citizens.

- Interesting, establishing, and expanding activities to care for special subjects such as autistic children, abandoned children, the elderly, etc. - Organizing more regularly and continuously training classes about different skills for the community: Marriage, family, etc. - Thinking about providing support and free training to the people in agriculture and forestry in remote areas. - Training in community transformation in order to equip the church with knowledge and skills so that the church can serve the community better.

Thanking Lord for letting the Meeting in joy, unity and full of encouragement. Praying that we continue to work together with the Lord and altogether express His light to the community as He taught us:

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
